In the Canadian school system you don’t learn a lot about history’s great Americans, presumably to curb jealousy. Realizing my own lack of knowledge, in 2015 I created Americans That Matter, a website that attempts to provide clear, condensed biographies of famous Americans, both living and dead, who were proven leaders in their field.
The site contains several dozen biographies of people like Bill Gates, Harriet Tubman, and Bruce Lee. Each one is a manageable 700-or-so words long, with half the biography describing “why they were famous” and other half telling “what they were like” as human beings. I’ve also drawn a cartoon of each one and provided some helpful links and resources.
This is my absolute favorite thing to work on. Learning about people who have achieved a lot in life is incredibly inspirational. I just wish the site was more popular.
